Online registration

Online registration is an important first step that all our new students need to take. The process is slightly different for UK and Irish students compared to non-UK and Irish students, so please take some time to read all the guidance below.

What is online registration?

Online registration:

  • Allows you to confirm your personal and academic information.
  • Provides you with the terms and conditions related to your studies.
  • Gives you information about your course and fees.
  • Enables you to share your details with our support services to help you through your studies.
  • Creates your IT account for login to University services (complete all fields, then accept terms and conditions).
  • Allows the University to collect all the necessary data for our statutory return
  • [Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught students only] Allows you to complete your student success questionnaire, which will help you assess your strengths, reflect on things you might want to improve or achieve at university, and see how you progress throughout your time at Surrey.

How to complete online registration

You will receive an email letting you know that online registration is open after you have accepted your place at University. Do not try to complete it before you receive this email as you may find that you cannot access the system.

Please complete online pre-registration as soon as and as accurately as possible.

Before you start online registration you will need:

Checklist

Eligibility to study documentation

Read about the documentation required when completing your online registration.

UK and Irish students

We are required to make sure all our students are eligible to study in the UK. We’re asking for UK and Irish nationals to upload documents as part of online registration, which will be stored securely on your student record.

To show your right to study, you will be required to upload one of the following documents:

  • UK or Republic of Ireland passport – specifically the photo page where nationality is shown. Please upload a clear copy, with none of the important information obscured
  • Irish national identity card
  • Birth certificate or certificate of citizenship (if you are British but do not hold a passport).

Unfortunately, we cannot accept a driving licence as evidence of your eligibility to study.

European and international students

In the Passport and Visa section of online registration please complete the following steps:

  • Passport: Upload a clear colour copy of the photo page from your current passport. The image should be on a clear background and show all biometric information.

If you do not hold a passport, please contact the Immigration Compliance Team via the online registration system to check your options.
  • Visa: If you have already obtained the visa that you will be using for study, please upload a share code so that we can verify your immigration status ahead of in person registration.

If you have not yet obtained the visa that you will use for study, you can complete online registration without providing the share code. After you receive your visa, you will then be able to login to Surrey Self-Service and upload it in the Registration section of your account.

Please note that students will not normally be permitted to complete in-person registration until a share code has been provided, so we recommend doing this in advance.

You must then make sure that you bring your passport and any physical visa documents with you to registration for verification.

All about your campus card

Receiving your campus card is one of the most iconic moments of your welcome experience, and for many it’ll be the first time that you feel truly like a University of Surrey student!

During the online registration process, you will be asked to upload a photo for your campus card. Once it’s approved, you will receive an email to confirm and you will be able to collect your card on campus.

If you are not given this option, once you have completed online registration and accessed and protected your IT account, you can submit a campus card request form to have your card produced and printed for collection at the Library.

What happens next?

UK and Irish students

Once you have successfully completed your online registration, you will receive an email called “Confirmation of registration”. This means your registration and enrolment are complete.

You should either print or save this email to your phone for future reference and use.

When you arrive on campus, you will need to collect your campus card – information about this is available on the Campus Card Collection page and in your welcome timetable.

BMBS Medicine (Graduate Entry) students

We encourage you to attend main registration on Sunday 14 September, as it will be a great opportunity to meet the team and ensure DBS and other pre-enrolment checks have been completed. You will receive detailed information by email from the Medical Programme Professional Services Team.

Veterinary Medicine and Science students

You should attend main registration and will have dedicated sessions on 13 and 14 September. You will be sent more information via email.

All other programmes

You do not need to attend main registration as you are fully enrolled upon completion of online registration.

You will still need to attend campus card collection.

Non-UK and Irish students

Once you have successfully completed your online registration, you will receive an email called “Confirmation of pre-registration", which means you’ve completed the first step of your registration and enrollment.

You should either print or save this email to your phone and bring it with you to Main Registration as this will help to keep the process as smooth and speedy as possible.

The next step is to attend Main Registration (in-person) when you arrive on campus, where our staff will complete further checks, including any relevant visa documentation, and give you your campus card. Information about this is available on the Main Registration page.
