National Student Survey 2025 shows student satisfaction remains high at Surrey

The results of the National Student Survey (NSS) 2025 are in, and we are delighted to share that the University has been ranked 15th* out of 122 UK universities for student satisfaction.

77% of our final year undergraduate students took part in the survey, which is more than the sector average, and awarded us an overall positivity score of 85.6% - up from 84.7% in 2024.  

Key highlights include:

  • 89.8% of final year undergraduates telling us that their course has developed the knowledge and skills that they need for their future – the 3rd highest score in the UK*.
  • 88.5% of students saying that information about our mental wellbeing support services is well communicated – also the 3rd highest score in the UK*.
  • We have also ranked top 10 in the UK* for two other questions, including:
    • How well does your course introduce subjects and skills in a way that builds on what you have already learned? - 5th
    • How good are teaching staff at explaining things? - 9th  
  • 16 of our subjects have been ranked in the top 10 in the UK*, including Biosciences, French, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Sound Recording which are all 2nd in the UK*.
  • Our overall satisfaction score sees us ranked in the top 15 in the UK* for the fourth year in a row.

Here are our overall scores for each survey theme:

  • Teaching: a score of 88.7%
  • Learning Resources: a score of 90%
  • Learning Opportunities: a score of 87.2%
  • Academic Support: a score of 91%
  • Assessment and Feedback: a score of 81.2%
  • Student Voice: a score of 80%
  • Organisation and management: a score of 82.8%

Surrey Students’ Union achieved an overall positivity score of 79.6%, ranking it 19th in the UK out of 122 students’ unions.

Student experience highlights

Delivering an exceptional student experience and education continues to be a top priority for our University as part of our Vision 2041 strategy. In the 2024/25 academic year, we:

  • Upgraded your digital tools - launching Surrey Support, upgrading MySurrey Help and enhancing your access to our University-wide digital textbook scheme to deliver expanded content and a suite of AI-powered study tools.  
  • Created new campus spaces - opening your new MySurrey Hive at Manor Park and innovative learning environments, such as our Games Innovation Zone, and creating family and sensory rooms.
  • Scheduled additional assessment and feedback support sessions - running extra drop-in sessions for additional feedback on coursework, launching more tutorial and support sessions for students repeating assessments and introducing new guidance, including videos, drop-in sessions and student-prepared support sheets. Expanded
  • Expanded your wellbeing support services - launching our ThriveWell team of student wellbeing advisers, publishing our Don’t Worry Surrey Exam Support Hub and increasing the opening hours of your Community Hub.

We’ll conduct a thorough analysis of today’s survey results to identify new ways to drive improvements and continue delivering excellent experiences for current and future students.

We’re already working on new projects in response to student feedback shared through previous National Student Surveys, as well Module Evaluation Questionnaires (MEQs), MySurrey Voice and your Students’ Union. We look forward to telling you more in the new academic year, including about our new:

  • Graduate Futures initiative to diversify our industry placement opportunities  
  • Surrey Sports Park upgrades – to offer the very best facilities and training environments, including a £500K gym refurbishment
  • Facility investments, including a new careers corner in MySurrey Hive Stag Hill, a dedicated games computer lab and more wellbeing spaces.
